The depth of penetration and the rate of propagation in pitting corrosion are significantly greater than in crevice corrosion. 8. The mechanism of crevice corrosion can be ( but is not always ) similar to that of pitting corrosion . 9. Bacterial corrosion may appear in form of pitting corrosion , for example in pipelines of the oil and gas industry. 10. Crevice corrosion is a very similar mechanism to pitting corrosion ; alloys resistant to one are generally resistant to both.
